Hi Folks,
Elaine and I were almost the last birders to leave Noland's Ferry at 5 p.m.
this afternoon; two others were still present as we drove away. We had
spent about 4 1/2 hours in the morning and 1 1/2 hours in the evening
enjoying the area and all the familiar faces, but the guest of honor never
arrived. At approximately 11 a.m. I counted 44 birders, and after leaving
and returning around 3:30 there were a lot of different folks present, so I
imagine 60 or more birders were out looking today. Besides the other birds
that have been posted previously, we scoped three female-plumaged COMMON
GOLDENEYEs on the river (see other posts about the prevelance of these birds
this winter), hanging out with about a half-dozen Buffleheads. And, for the
benefit of Jim Brighton, we had a B. Kingfisher flying along the river
around 4 p.m., and two others at Monocacy National Battlefield Park along
the Monocacy River during the afternoon. Are you reading this, Jim?
