We were at the Loch Raven fishing area on Tuesday and our best birds were two Pileated Woodpeckers, with one calling the other.

 Good birding,

Subject: [MDOSPREY] E Wigeon - Loch Raven 1/12/06

Debbie Terry and I looked at Loch Raven yesterday afternoon despite the bright sun making observation difficult. We saw all birds at considerable distance from the old picnic area. The male Eurasian Wigeon was found after much searching and some confusion with a deceptive male Redhead that appeared to have a creamy forehead and a pale back. The latter bird stayed pretty much into the sun but was obviously different from the other male Redhead which looked normal, enough to make it look like a big Eurasian Wigeon until it dove. There were at least 150 American Wigeon and as many Ring-necked Ducks to sort through. We saw only the two Redheads.
