Folks

The Red-headed Woodpeckers are back at the Nanjemoy Environmental Educational Center in Nanjemoy, Charles County, MD. Gwen and I had at least three birds this afternoon including one subadult.

An adult Bald Eagle flew by while I was photographing the woodpecker, but at this location Bald Eagle is a "hoo hum" bird. You can't go anywhere without seeing some in Nanjemoy.

We also had about four Mute Swans and 20+ Tundra Swans on the creek. They had company: six Bufflehead, six Lesser Scaup, one male Canvasback, and an immature Double-crested Cormorant.

We did not relocate the rail that was reported late last week.

We also relocated an Eastern Screech Owl (red morph) found on the Port Tobacco CBC. The bird was sunning itself in the late afternoon on the outside of it's roost. Picture time!

At the house in Waldorf we had two Purple Finches today - one adult male and one brownie.

Good wintering birding.
