It has been two weeks since we were down here last but the Yellow-throated Warbler showed up again this morning at our suet feeder. It was last seen on Saturday, January 7.

Ducks were a bit hard to find today with the strong southerly winds blowing up small craft warnings all along the coast. At the inlet we saw (in very small numbers) Black & Surf Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Red-breasted Merganser, and Brant. A handful of Bonaparte's Gulls were fishing off the tip of the south jetty and there were a few Purple Sandpipers and 3 Common Loons there as well, but not much else.

At West Ocean City Pond we saw about 300 Canvasback but were unable to locate any Redheads in the mix. Also there were Northern Shoveler, Mallard, American Black Duck, Gadwall, and Ruddy Duck.

The pond at Eagle's Landing Golf Course was surprisingly empty, with only a few shovelers and a small flock of American Wigeon. Many ducks were sheltering under the shoreline but the wind didn't hold down the number of golfers at all so we couldn't really get any closer than the road edge to look for the Eurasian Wigeons (which we did NOT see today).

We fared a bit better at the Berlin Sewage Lagoons. There was a flock of about 1,000 Canada Geese, with one beautiful Cackling Goose and one blue-phase Snow Goose mixed in with the Canadas. Also there were good numbers of Ring-necked Duck, Green-winged Teal, Ruddy Duck, and the usual Mallards and Black Ducks.

Best from the coast!
