Sorry for the lateness of the report but got busy Saturday and Sunday.

I led a trip for Southern MD Audubon around Calvert county Saturday. The
temps were nice but the wind didn't help much. We ended up with a total
of 50 species with the best being a raft of about 20 Black Scoters on
the Bay across from North Beach marsh, and a very cooperative
Long-tailed Duck near the Oyster House and Our Lady Star of the Sea in
Solomons at about 15 feet.

A few years ago, while counting waterfowl for the Jug Bay Patuxent
waterfowl survey, I found a Brown-headed Nuthatch at the end of Lloyd
Bowen Rd. near Jefferson Patterson Park. Every time I drive down there,
I'm optimistic I'll find another. Well, persistence paid off and we had
several there. They were calling their squeaky toy calls in the loblolly
pines adjacent the house on the left as you approach the river. Due to
the high winds, we were never able to see any of them and they
eventually moved away to the south.

Anyway, any county listers who missed the one there a few years ago have
another opportunity to tick this one. Just be nice to the neighbors as
they are responsible for the No Parking sign at the end of the road
though this is clearly a legal area to park. I've never had any problems
with them as long as you play nice and tell them what you're up to.
