A Lesser Black-backed Gull was on a light pole at the Cambridge end of the US 50 bridge across the Choptank River, at noon on Saturday, January 28. Jane and Dennis Coskren found the bird while they were birding from the adjacent fishing bridge. It was an adult with a slate-gray mantle. A Herring Gull on an adjacent pole provided a good size comparison. Other birds seen from the bridge: a Peregrine Falcon, one male and three female Greater Scaup, many Common Goldeneye, Surf Scoters, and Long-tailed Ducks. The ducks provided wonderful close-up looks. |
