Hello All,
I made my usual rounds of the Oak Grove area (on the state line between Seaford, DE and Federalsburg, MD for those of you not familiar with all of the tiny Delmarva locales) on Sunday 1/29. A winter's high of 32 goldfinches were at the feeder. I am hoping the flock will grow and bring something interesting with them. My first stop was on North Oak Grove Rd south of Oak Grove (in DE) proper where I can scan to the south and east. My target was flyby gulls and I was quickly rewarded with a group of 15 Greater Black-backs and 20+ Herrings. Nice not to struggle for GBBG this year (had to wait until December last year). While scanning, there were Savannah Sparrows in the field adjacent (FOY) and a Red-Shouldered Hawk (FOY) cruised by. It made the mistake of taking to the air as a flock of crows was going by and promptly got mobbed, much to its dissatisfaction. Also a Red-tail and a Bald Eagle here. Moving on to Kinder Rd (MD), I was able to coax a Hermit Thrush out of the woods (FOY). On the farm, songbirds were hard to come by in the steady SW wind, so I did not make a great effort. However, I did enjoy a flock of pipits that has grown to around 100 birds. I nearly ran over them with the car before they flushed.
Also, on 1/28, there was another Black Vulture (uncommon in January) and on 1/30 I heard a Fish Crow (FOY). The year list stands at 56 with these recent additions and makes the best total for the end of January.

Good Birding,
