Common Mergansers, Eagles

From the point where the Potomac enters the feeder canal for the lower 
Georgetown portion of the canal you can see an eagles nest (I guess the 
eagles nest) just up river on the Virginia side with two mature eagles 
sitting nearby, sometime both sitting in the nest. Also in the calm waters 
just above the pipe that forms the diversionary dam at Little Falls were 20 
or more common mergansers. Better seen from the grassy area on the 
Brookmont side of the Little Falls pumping station. About 5PM Sunday

Many years ago, perhaps 1965, I stood at that point and on a low 
overhanging limb(may still be there, that is the tree limb)was an immature, 
just 20 feet or so away. Not intimidated,it just sat there,eye fixed on me 
the way raptors do. I finally walked away.
