On Feb 2 at 4PM an adult Iceland Gull was on the rocks just below the head of
the rapids at Violette's Lock, on the Potomac. This is only the second
Iceland I've seen at this location. It was with the usual number of Herring,
Ring-billed, and Greater Black-backed Gulls.
It had a very pale gray mantle, yellow bill with a red subterminal spot and a
slightly greenish base, and deep pink legs. The folded primaries showed all
white. When the wing was stretched there were very faint gray subterminal
markings, almost invisible, on the primaries.
Dan Ebberly stopped by and looked at the gull also.
