I approached the Ruff area with such high
expectations, since I had talked to John Hubbell not
long after he had seen it. Alas, not a shorebird was
to be seen when I arrived. The human company made up
for the avian disappointment; it was nice to talk to
Tyler Bell and Jane Kostenko about the Sandgates Kelp
Gull.
Earlier in the morning, the three American White
Pelicans were visible along the south side of the
Wildlife Drive at Blackwater NWR, presumably in "the
usual spot".
In the afternoon, John Hubbell and I were at Cambridge
Yacht Club. Nary a Harley to be seen among the boats.
A male Redhead was with the many Canvasbacks to the
east of the club.
On my way to Virginia, I spied an adult Peregrine
flying near the railway bridge, looking like it was
going to land underneath the center of the bridge.
The sunset was beautiful tonight.
