Common Goldeneye has been one of my nemesis birds in Caroline County.
For a good 10 years I've searched for it as a county-listing
"close-out" for that species. (That is, to make that a species I've
seen in all Maryland counties.) In fact, that's one of the reasons I
almost ceased county-listing. Inspired by Jim Stasz's report the other
day, Kevin Graff and I went to the Denton Sewage Lagoon and saw 2 male
and about 6-8 female Common Goldeneyes. We were viewing them from
behind the shopping center on Route 404 with the Rose's store. Thank
goodness they weren't Barrow's Goldeneyes!!!

Then down Route 16 about 5 miles south of Denton, darn if there
weren't 2 more female Goldeneyes on Williston Lake! Then 3 more on the
pond along nearby Nagel Road! There were also several Buffleheads at
the sewage lagoon and one at Williston lake. That's another very tough
species in Caroline.

We looked for the Ruff in Dorchester without success. There were the 3
White Pelicans at Blackwater, perhaps several hundred Pintails, and
thousands of Snow Geese. Kevin will post his usual detailed list soon
I assume.
