Hello all.
I spent a couple of hours at Compass Pointe Golf Course this morning. It is
located on the same peninsula at Ft. Smallwood and Weinberg Park. The
facility consists of at least two courses and is nicely kept. However, the
abandoned county fill area behind the North Course is the best place to
find notable birds.
Highlights: Abandoned Fill Area behind North Course:
TV: 4
Bald Eagle: 2 Adults. Fly-over
RS Hawk: 1 Adult
RB Woodpecker: 4
D. Woodpecker: 3
N. Flicker: 3
Pileated Woodpecker: 2 I heard one call, chased it and found the other.
RB NUTHATCH: 1 In the tall pines along Water Oak Point Rd.
WB Nuthatch: 1
E. Bluebird: 1
H. Thrush: 2
E. Towhee: 4
WT Sparrow: 19+ I couldn't venture an actual count
Swamp Sparrow: 2
Savannah Sparrow: 3
Song Sparrow: 16
Fox Sparrow: 1 Always good to see.
North Course:
G. Blue Heron: 1 At a drainage area.
Mallard: 24 In a very large water trap
Bufflehead: 1 Female, same place as the Mallards
Junco: 8
