Hi All,

Peter Mann and I went out yesterday morning to seek field birds along the raod shoulders amid the fast-retreating snows from Sunday's nor'easter. The field birds were a bit less prone to stick to the shoulders with all of those nice grassy patches starting to spread in the fields, but we found a few anyway.

We rounded-up 58 species on our five-hour outing. A major highlight was an adult GOLDEN EAGLE soaring just east of US-301 between MD-313 and Chesterville Bridge Road. Other good birds included a singing RUSTY BLACKBIRD on Fairlee Creek; 24 AMERICAN PIPITS on Fish Hatchery Rd; 12 EASTERN MEADOWLARKS near Great Oak Pd.; 33 scattered Savannah Sparrows; 136 Horned Larks (55 each on Walnut Tree & Quinn Rds); and a Winter Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, 2 White-breasted Nuthatches, a Belted Kingfisher, and a Brown Creeper at the newly rebuilt bridge over the Andover Branch of the Chester on Peacock Corner Rd.

Today there were two WILSON'S SNIPE on the mudflats on Mill Creek here at Chesapeake Landing.

Good Birding,

Walter Ellison
