Yellow-throated Warbler Returns

This morning, at 8:30 am, and again several times over the morning, we again had a Yellow-throated Warbler at our suet feeder. This was our first sighting of the bird in three weeks (snow storms, empty suet feeder, etc). I figured that the bird had either died or moved on to more salubrious climes but apparently it found other food sources to keep it warm.

The bird we saw in January had a mostly white supercilium, with just a touch of yellow at the rear of the supercilium. Jim Stasz felt that the photo I sent him could not rule out a 1st winter female member of the Southeast Race (dominica). I have no reason to think the bird we saw today is a different one from the one in January except that now the supercilium appeared completely white, with no hint at all of yellow, suggesting a bird of the Interior East Race (albilora). The bird looks quite different from Carrol Ghebelian's yellow-supercilium bird that has also been around her feeders in Southern Maryland for most of the winter.

One of these days I'll get some more pictures posted of the bird.

A tip of the hat to Mark Hoffman for his call yesterday alerting us to the Eared Grebe in the bay behind the OC Convention Center. This was a new county bird for both of us!

Hope to see all of you on the pelagics out of Lewes this coming weekend!

Best,
Norm
