I spent some time exploring an outlying fragment of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and Taylors Island Wildlife Management Area this afternoon, along Smithville Road south of MD#16 (southwest of Cambridge).

The Blackwater NWR section was called Parsons Creek Neck, Area-S. It was a wet pine forest. I flushed American Woodcocks (AMWOs) 3 times, 2 singles and a double (pair?). The wing twitter was quite loud. Also had 2 Bald Eagles and 2 Brown-headed Nuthatches nearby - nice, but not special here.

At Taylors Island WMA, one more AMWO and a Winter Wren were the best birds. Needed boots here.
