Between 6:15 and 6:45 PM this evening, the woodcock at UMBC put on a nice display. You could hear them quite well, but following them in the air was another matter. There were about 10 of us and none knew quite where to stand so we split into two groups. One walked back down the road about 100 yards and turned left into the field and stood in the open area near a storm drainage pond. The other group walked straight ahead from where you park at the end of Research Park Drive over the knoll. Both groups heard many peents and saw several flights, but the group that walked straight ahead from the end of the road did the best. As it turned out, there was a ball game tonight and the stadium lights were on further down the path. If one put the stadium light behind you, the lights illuminated the woodcock went they flew up. Very enjoyable 30 minutes!

Thanks Stan Arnold and Wendy Olsson for your reports.
