Hello all.

My morning birding attempt was thwarted by being called into work, so I
decided that I could not let this weather pass without a little afternoon
birding. The main trail at Weinberg Park is mostly cleaned up from last
month's storm damage and yielded some great birds including a Red-breasted
Nuthatch, 2 Eastern Phoebes, 3 Pine Warblers and a good sparrow and
woodpecker assortment (including the RHWO).

Highlights:

G. Blue Heron: 1 On the pond's edge
DC Cormorant: 16 On White Rocks
M. Swan: 2
C. Goose: 4
Mallard: 3
Scaup sp: 10 On Rock Creek
Canvasback: 14 On Rock Creek
Wood Duck: 3 On the pond
TV: 18 Including a soaring group of 16 headed northwest
OSPREY: 1 Cruising over Rock Creek
RT Hawk: 1 Moving north
SS Hawk: 1 Moving north
RB Gull: 3
H. Gull: 2
GBB Gull: 3 On White Rocks
Killdeer: 1 Flyover
RB NUTHATCH: 1 Working a tree trunk silently, I found it by dumb luck
RB Woodpecker: 3
RH WOODPECKER: 1 No longer looking like a subadult!
D. Woodpecker: 1
N. Flicker: 3
YB Sapsucker: 1 On the same tree as the Nuthatch
Pileated Wodpecker: 1 Calling
E. PHOEBE: 2 Hunting from neighboring brush piles
PINE WARBLER: 3 Working the pines along the main trail
Song Sparrow: 6
WT Sparrow: 24+ total
E. Towhee: 10 total Several now singing

Also, American Robins moving through in good numbers along with Common
Grackles, RW Blackbirds and BH Cowbirds.

Best to all,

Matt Grey
