Loch raven was productive yesterday, despite heavy winds. Highlights
were:
Tundra Swans (well over 200)
Hooded Merganser
REDHEAD (1)
On to Paper Mill; which was quiet: Highlight was ~100 Green Winged Teal
Side Note: A partially albino Mallard. Amazing looking, i was unable
to photograph. The head had some brown streaking, the bill was very
pale green similar to mottled duck. Body and wings were entirely
white, without any markings. Shape and bill made the ID easy,
although i was initially shocked.
Finally: I might have jumped the gun last week when i called the
accipiters nesting in my yard sharpies. I posted as soon as i saw
them, due to rare sharpie breeding records in baltimore. I still
haven't seen either of them soaring, so i can't be entirely sure, but
i'm starting to walk back my ID. I've only been able to get a single
photograph. As i said, it was extremely windy, and the bird was
hunkering down, making it seem smaller. I'm still not 100% sure; but
the tail seems long. Comments are welcome.
