I finally got over to the National Arboretum to see the READE-HEADED WOODPECKER this morning. It was in its usual spot in the wooded area behind the column. My wife and I got great views and spent 15 minutes or looking at it.

Note: there is "danger pesticides" sign in the wooded area inhabited by the Red-headed woodpecker. I don't know what type of pesticide is being used or why but someone may want to ask the Arboretum to refrain from spraying this area until the Woodpecker departs.

Other birds seen at the National Arboretum:

  Great Blue Heron 1
  Mallard 4
Hooded Merganzer 7 (small pond near NY Ave Gate)
  Eastern Bluebird 2
  Red-headed Woodpecker 1

  White Breasted Nuthatch (ear)
  Canada Goose 2
  American Robin
  Song Sparrow 2
  Northern Cardinal 2
