Greetings fellow birders ,

I spent a couple hours Sunday morning observing the ridge along Cromwell Bridge Road looking
south from Sherwood Farm. This is a great view of a mile or more of the ridge and is where we
conduct our Spring HawkWatch from. This is also a good location to observe Red-tailed hawk
courtship behavior, and today there was plenty of courting going on! Three pair of RT hawks were
seen performing chase, talon drop and quick dives into the woods. An additional pair were seen
farther east along the ridge. Later on in the afternoon we verified one active nest in the Loch
Raven High School area and a possible second nest being built near CVP.

Also seen was a Coopers Hawk performing a deep, slow wingbeat flight which makes it look very
much like a Northern Harrier's flight pattern. This is a courtship display too, although only a single
Coopers was seen.
