Yesterday AM, because I had to go to work for a short time, I birded at
GSFC. Hoped to see some early migrants, but struck out except for an E.
Phoebe. Somewhat surprised to find a pair of Hooded Mergansers still
around, and saw about a dozen bluebirds between 7 and 8 AM. Later,
around 10 AM, I retraced my path (because I lost a lens cap), and found
that the bluebirds had been replaced by large numbers of robins.
Conclusion: Bluebirds get up earlier than robins.
Also saw a half-dozen cowbirds, singing(bubbling?) and waiting anxiously
for the migrants.
Surprising miss: no White-throated Sparrows. It seems to me that there
haven't been as many around my feeders this winter as normal.
