A HERMIT THRUSH has been hanging around my house in Darnestown, Montgomery County MD since December (presumably the same individual). This evening at 5:30 pm the bird was out on the open lawn with half a dozen robins. It spent the next 15 minutes completely out in the open foraging like a robin, cocking its head occasionally. It foraged under a dogwood for a while and I saw it pick up a berry. Last week it was foraging under a large privet bush but not venturing more than a few feet into the open. New behavior to me...1 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH continues to frequent the feeder. Sharp-shinned hawk has moved on, gone for a week; left nothing but a mat of cardinal feathers under the azalea where he dined all winter.
