I checked out the ponds (soon to be puddles if we don't get rain) on Rt.
309 between RT 213 and 404 outside Centreville this afternoon. Not much
there ... and small numbers for all:
Green Winged Teal
Black Duck
one great egret
Mallard
pair of wood ducks
several probing birds .... dowitchers (?). I was missing the
spotting scope.
Yesterday I was driving down Carville Lane outside of Centreville and ran
across (almost literally) a beautiful Tom Turkey. He was on the side of
the road and his ladies were still on the other side, not yet having
emerged from the woods. He was not too pleased that my car got between
him and his harem. He put on a nice display, strutting back and forth
with feathers all fluffed out.
