There were two spring arrivals at Schoolhouse Pond this morning. I
spotted one Northern Rough-winged Swallow flying over the pond and
perching on the wire along the boardwalk. Also present were two Blue-gray
Gnatcatchers low in the trees along the trail at the backside of the
pond. Other birds present included one Great Egret (also the first of the
year), Double Crested Cormorant, a pair of Wood Ducks, singing male
Towhee, and a flyover Kestrel.
