This Friday, April 7, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. the Anne Arundel Bird Club is hosting an Osprey expert who will speak on the ECOLOGY AND NATURAL HISTORY OF OSPREYS IN THE CHESAPEAKE BAY: ALL YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT OSPREYS BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK.  Meeting place at Arlington Echo Environmental Education Center, Crownsville, MD

Steve Cardano, a true expert on Ospreys of the Chesapeake region, will give a fascinating presentation on the ecology and natural history of Ospreys in the Chesapeake Bay region. Steve will discuss the identification, nest building, rearing of young, and migratory patterns of Ospreys in the Chesapeake Bay Region. Research findings on nesting success and recovery of banded birds will also be presented. Steve Cardano currently works for the Indian River School District in Delaware where he coordinates the statewide science curriculum in the District and conducts environmental education activities for secondary students at Ingram Pond Outdoor Education Center. 
From 1987 to 2003, Steve was Director of the Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center for the Charles County Public Schools and had been a Biology teacher since 1980 at Thomas Stone H.S. in Charles County. He holds a MA in Science Education, University of Maryland, and a BS in Biology, St. Mary's College of Maryland. Steve has banded over 2,500 osprey fledglings in the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays since 1978. he has cooperated with the Pennsylvania and Ohio Departments of Wildlife to reestablish Ospreys as breeding birds in those states. He received the 2004 "Conservationist of the Year" award from Southern Maryland Audubon Society.
