Today I had my first BLUE-HEADED VIREO of the year (though I heard a
possible one yesterday). The little devil waited until I was on my way to
work (i.e., without binocs), then started singing over my head. My naked-
eye view was frustrating, but good enough to confirm it was a blue-headed
and not, for example, a creative starling. Technically he was in neither
Ft. Bayard Park nor my yard, though he was within a few yards of both.
Earlier, in Ft. Bayard Park proper, I had a nice male YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKER, as well as a CHIPPING SPARROW (they've been in the neighborhood
for several days now).
