Greetings,
I spent a very pleasant morning 4/6 at the Henryton section of the Patapsco Valley State Park and then the Hugg-Thomas wildlife management area. (Howard County, Delorme pg 57, between A&B at 4 & 5.) The highlights for me were:
Henryton 8-10 am - West trail
Wood Ducks, about 7 M, 1 F
Louisiana Waterthrush singing and posing by the river
Rusty Blackbirds, 2 M, 1 F in the first little creek by the road
Across the river heard a Field Sparrow and Great Horned Owl and saw a red fox.
Hugg-Thomas 10 am-12.
Accipiter soaring - guessing Sharp-Shinned by the way it held its wings in a gull position.
2 GHOs having a nice conversation.
Louisiana Waterthrush singing and posing by a wet area.
Kinglet - heard once only.
FYI - Hugg-Thomas next hunting season is posted as 4/15 - 5/23 Monday - Saturday when my understanding is that it is open to hunters with permits only.
This was my first visit. When not closed for hunting, it seemed it would be a birdy area with a mixture of fields, woods and streams, a lot of understory, several pine stands and roads that would let one be partway up the hillside to help with warbler neck.
