While on my way for a quick afternoon coffee break, I was surprised to note
a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER fly onto a small street tree at the corner of
New York Ave. and 17th St., NW. Probably just passing from the White House
area to the magnolias and sycamores in Rawlins Park, but it was an
unusually urban spot to see one. Just a bold (or confused) migrant, I
guess.
The resident Red-tailed Hawk winged through the area today, too.
