51-78 degrees; partly to mostly sunny; fair to good visibility; winds
mostly from the southwest, 5-14 mph.
Raptor Observations:
A great day for hawkwatching and the ribbon-cutting Park re-opening
ceremony. At 11 am the hawks started streaming through high and on a
mission. Six of eleven species reached seasonal highs, with Harriers and
Kestrels putting on a show. Especially fitting to have most of our
regular observers on hand to see the flight.
Non-raptor Observations:
A Red-throated Loon and a few hundred Tree Swallows. At the re-opening
ceremony, plaques were presented marking the naming of Fort Smallwood Park as an Important Bird Area by Audubon Maryland-DC.
