During a lunchtime walk with a friend, I spotted my first Northern
Parula of the year, happily regaling crowds of tourists on the Mall near
the Dept. of Agriculture. A Ruby-Crowned Kinglet was in the same tree.
At Constitution Gardens, we saw the following:
Canada Goose
Mallard
American Coot
Ring-billed Gull
Rock Pigeon
Northern Flicker
Blue Jay
Fish Crow
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Hermit Thrush
American Robin
Northern Mockingbird
Brown Thrasher
European Starling
Cedar Waxwing
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Palm Warbler (yellow)
Chipping Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Red-winged Blackbird
Common Grackle
House Sparrow
The previous day (Wednesday), a Pied-bill Grebe and a Great Blue Heron
were present at Constitution Gardens, and both Brown Thrasher and Hermit
Thrush were numerous.
