Greetings,
Sunday morning I took a stroll along the Susquahanna River to check out the
migrants and wildflowers. Seems like the majority of the birds have yet to
move in, but I did end up with nearly 50 speices in just over 2 hours.
Highlights were 5 warbler sp: Pine, Yellow-rumped, Parula, Palm (more
yellow then westerns) and Louisiana Waterthrush (5 singign). I also had
Barn, Tree, and Northern Rough-winged Swallow, as well as, a lone Chimney
Swift. Other birds of note were singing Phoebes, a field Sparrow at the
mill, a single Broad-winged Hawk, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Eastern Screech
Owl, 6 Wood Ducks, and loads of Blue-grey Gnatcatchers. Still waiting on
the bulk of the warblers, flycathcers, vireos, and orioles...
Additionally I had 9 butterfly species and tons of wildflowers including
Dutchman's Breeches, Bluebells, mustard, garlic, beauties, etc...
Good Birding,
Chris Starling
PS: -had two Bonnaparte's Gulls in alternate plumage fly by my father-in-
