The additional set of wetland ponds that were dug last fall were too late to
catch attention of the fall migrants. But today the shorebirds were there
in delightful numbers. A mid-afternoon visit yielded the following:
    Greater Yellowlegs ~ 30
    Lesser Yellowlegs ~ 20
    Short-billed Dowitcher 10
    Pectoral Sandpiper 10
    Dunlin (in breeding plumage) 1
    Solitary Sandpiper 1
    Stilt Sandpiper 3
    Wilson's Snipe 1
    Killdeer 2

    Other highlights of the visit:
     Wood Duck 3
      Black Duck 2
      Green-winged Teal 40+
      Hooded Merganser 1
      Tree Swallow - numerous
       Barn Swallow - several
       Common Yellowthroat - several singing
