Abbreviations are nice, but I have seen a few cases where I suspect the
writer made them up. It is sometimes entertaining for a novice, such as
myself, attempting to guess the correct species from the other clues in
the message when combined with an odd abbreviation. Am I correct in
assuming that birders are striving to use the same abbreviations as bird
banders?

As for the raptor reports, the same species are always listed and there
are only a few to learn. The consistency in that case is fine by me. I
appreciate those reports, as well. Are there other raptor watching sites
in the area?
