I spotted my first green heron of the season on a Race
Rd. telephone wire in Hanover (MD) that has served as
a "family perch" for at least five years.  The
bulldozers are busier in this area than they have been
in 25 years, but a very thin, southwestern slice of
the Patapsco Valley State Park still provides refuge
for birds and mammals in this growing warehouse
district.

Hopefully by mid-summer another family of herons will
occupy "the wire".
