Tuesday I heard my first Northern Parula in the neighborhood.
Ft. Bayard this morning didn't feature anybody new and exciting today, other than my first RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET of the spring (finally). The PURPLE FINCHES were there for the third straight day. They're liking the sycamore and other tree flowers that are open now. , Around 4 Yellow-rumps but no other warblers.
CHIPPING SPARROWS are commonplace here during migration, but the number today was the highest yet--my conservative estimate is 35, and that's clumped in a pretty small area. I had feared yesterday's mowing by NPS would drive them away; instead it seems to have brought in more. A low-flying OSPREY that circled to check out me and the hill was also a nice treat.
