Eleven people met at the C&O Canal parking lot between mileposts 71 and 72
for a two hour walk along the canal in search of Spring migrants, followed
by a drive through Antietam Battlefield to look for sparrows.
A total of 47 species were seen including good looks at Yellow-rumped, Palm,
and Yellow-throated Warblers. Also seen or heard along the canal were
White-eyed, Blue-headed, and Warbling Vireos, Louisiana Waterthrush and
Northern Parula.
A Vesper Sparrow, singing on territory (third week at same location), was
well seen at Antietam and a Savannah Sparrow, perched on a fencepost
provided a brief look.
