Hi all --

We got to Rock Creek Park DC late today, thanks to an accident on Connecticut Ave., so some of the birds reported below were seen before we arrived, or at different sites. Anyway, certainly more action today but still slow for Rock Creek, when the weather improves for migration (esp. favorable winds) there should be a good movement. Some species which should have arrived by now are missing in action...

Warblers: Black-and-White (2), Black-throated Blue (1), Black-throated Green (5), Blue-winged (2), CAPE MAY (1, still at Nature Center near loop trail), Magnolia (1), Myrtle (~45), Ovenbird (5-6), Redstart (1), Yellowthroat (2). Seen by others: Blackburnian (1), Nashville (1) -- 12 species, our first double-digit day...

Other migrants: Rose-breasted Grosbeak (2), Wood Trush (6), Gray Catbird (4), Baltimore Oriole (1), Scarlet Tanager (1), Red-eyed Vireo (2), Ruby-crowned Kinglet (12), Purple Finch (1), Swamp Sparrow (1), White-throated Sparrow (~35, a large influx of these since yesterday, heading north!), Tree Swallow (1). Seen by others: Red-breasted Nuthatch (1).

We are no longer counting the Brown Thrashers nesting near the equitation field, you seem very peeved at the presence of the birders!
