In between the raindrops, I spent some time at Tuckahoe State Park
this morning. I had 5 young birders with me from Kennard Elementary
School. After they got wet, they quit complaining about getting wet. ;-)

I have been there 3 times in the last 10 days and 2 of those visits
produced Pileated Woodpeckers in the same spot. This is the location:
from the lake, go up the road toward the Equestrian Center. After you
pass the first right hand turn into the equestrian center (just a short
distance from the lake), I have seen the birds on the left. If you want
more specific directions, just email.

Other birds of note:
     White-eyed Vireo - 1 or 2
     Ovenbirds - everywhere
male and female Towhee together - seen 2 days in a row just behind
the bathrooms.
     Pine Warblers - many
     Yellow-rumped Warblers
Northern Parula - just heard one
     Eastern Kingbird - 2
     Common Yellowthroat - many
     White-breasted Nuthatch --- I think I found a nest site.

I spent nearly 10 minutes observing an Ovenbird on the forest floor. I
can see why these birds can be difficult to see. It walked slowly and
deliberately without digging into the leaf litter.

The peepers were getting cranked up. The rain must be very welcome for
them.
