I braved the drizzle and ventured into Ft. Bayard this morning, and was rewarded with a few nice birds, all in the same tasty little oak tree.
A BLUE-HEADED VIREO was technically a first of the year for the park, though I had an early one across the street a few weeks back. As I was watching him, in flew the best bird: a YELLOW-HEADED VIREO. A first-ever for me in the park, and a bit of a surprise since I don't recall seeing many posts about them yet.
Rounding out the migrants were a Yellow-rumped and a Yellow Palm Warbler. For the first time in a while, I did not see/hear any Purple Finches or Chipping Sparrows. It wouldn't surprise me if the finches are gone, but I'm sure the Chippies are just hunkered down.
