This morning near the intersection of Gregory Road and Bruffs Island Road a
Summer Tanager was singing. A Worm-eating Warbler was also singing fairly
close to that spot.

Farther down Gregory Road beside the region of the forest re-growth were:

Yellow-breasted Chat - several
Field Sparrow
Blue Grosbeak
White-eyed Vireo

At Pickering Creek a Yellow Warbler was singing from the tree beside the
Welcome Center.

In my own yard a Ruby-crowned Kinglet was singing its pretty warbling song.
There are still 20 or more White-throated Sparrows welcoming my birdseed. A
Baltimore Oriole was singing here yesterday, along with the young male
Orchard Oriole that arrived a few days ago. A Double-crested Cormorant
showed up beside our pier near noon today. The Osprey is now solidly rooted
to the nest. The Mallards that have taken over our yard included one with
five eggs in a nest amongst the spent daffodils. During the night, some
local raccoons came by and feasted on some of my thistle seed, then topped
off the meal with five lovely Mallard eggs. (With 30 Mallards in our yard,
there is really no local shortage of these. but a family of little ducklings
for our grandchildren to enjoy would have been nice.)
