This morning I participated in the Audubon Maryland-DC monthly bird walk at
Patterson Park in Baltimore led by David Curson. It was a great walk and
Patterson Park is a great place to bird. I'm sure he or someone will post
the complete list, but a couple of the highlights for me were a Yellow
Warbler and Common Yellowthroat.

Then I went to the North Track of the Patuxent Research Refuge. First I
birded the River Trail where there were plenty of American Redstarts, a
very persistent Red-eyed Vireo, and singing White-throated Sparrows and
Norther Parulas.

After the River Trail, I checked the log book and found that someone had
reported a Prothonatary Warbler near Bailey's Bridge. I made my way around
Wildlife Drive and parked in the new parking area. You can walk across the
bridge, but can't drive. This area is called Bailey's Swamp.

There seemed to be 1000's of birds in the trees today. There was so much
noise it was hard to discern the different songs. I'm sure there were more
that I didn't know than I did know.

I found 2 Prothonataries, a male and female. Follow the double yellow lines
on the new part of the road. Stop when the lines stop and look around.
That's the area where the Prothonataries were when I was there. They gave
me great looks, sitting in the low trees at the edges of the road.

Other birds included:

Red-tailed Hawk
Red-shouldered Hawk
Osprey (sitting in tree along River)

Black and White Warbler
Northern Parula (heard lots, saw one)
Yellow-rumped Warbler
American Redstart
Red-eyed Vireo
American Goldfinches

Pileated Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker

Great-Blue Heron
Belted Kingfisher
Mallard
