Yes, it is Black Walnut.  I have around 12 of them together in the chicken 
pen that I started from seed 20 years ago.

You mentioned the sycamore tree.  Whenever the Orioles appear in the yard, 
they head for the sycamore tree and attack the seed balls.  The trees 
appear to be a real draw for them.  I "assume" they are going after the 
seeds, but they may be going after insects that have gotten into the 
balls.  There sure isn't any type of nectar in there for them.  Until I 
saw them going after the seeds (again, an assumption) I thought that 
Orioles focused on nectar and insects.
