High tide today was exceptionally high. I went to Hances Point to see how
bad it was; the small beach was completely under water and there was only
about 2" of clearance between the bottom of the finger piers and the water.
I was told that the water had already come down at least that much.

My concern is all the nesting Barn Swallows--I don't think the water
would have flooded their nests, but the birds couldn't get to their nests
for several hours today. I wonder how many had already laid eggs.

We seem to get these ultra-high tides a couple of times of year. I hope
the birds have a tide clock built into their brains and wait for the more
usual tide cycles before laying their eggs.

Barn Swallows are one of the charms of local marinas. They perch on
docklines and chatter away, and of course they eat gnats and mosquitos,
bless their hearts. Too bad they don't pick spiders off the boats.

Mallards seemed quite happy with the flooded parking lot today.
