Jim Peters led twelve (?) very happy birders on a wonderful walk at Fort
McHenry tonight. We had great weather... a great group of birders... and
great birds. Tonight¹s highlights [highlighted in yellow] included a
Yellow-throated Vireo, a Yellow-breasted Chat, a Yellow Warbler, several
Common Yellow-throats and a first-year male Orchard Oriole. Although
reported earlier this week, we missed that yellow-bellied kingbird from out
West the Western Kingbird. A Grasshopper Sparrow thrilled us as we walked
around the fort.
We found four Warbler (Yellow, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat, and
Yellow-breasted Chat), and seven Sparrow (Chipping, Field, Savannah,
Grasshopper, Song, Swamp, and White-throated) species. Final count:
forty-eight species.
Many of birds went hi-tech this week, employing the new ALCiD technology to
challenge the group and drive us crazy. ALCiD (Anti-Listing Cloaking Device)
was developed in the 2003 by NASA to protect the critically endangered Fort
McHenry Razorbill. If you often hear ³Where did it go?² or ³The Chat was
there a second ago² you¹ll know what happened.
