Hi all --
Rock Creek Park DC was very good today as well, though not quite as exceptional as yesterday -- however, the highlight (seen by a lucky few which did NOT include us, alas!) was a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER seen in the Maintenance Yard. This species is being seen less and less frequently at Rock Creek -- a decade ago we had days with multiple sightings and over a season, a number of reports. Now it seems to be one or two a season -- if that.
Birds seen by us and others (or heard only because of foliage!) included:
Warblers:
Black-and-White (6)
Blackburnian (1)
Black-throated Blue (12)
Black-throated Green (~15)
Blackpoll (3)
Blue-winged (4)
Blue-winged hybrid-type (1, appeared like a dull BW but with greenish wings, yellow wingbars, and incomplete dark lores)
Cape May (1)
Chestnut-sided (4)
Golden-winged (1)
Hooded (5!)
Magnolia (4)
Myrtle (~75)
Nashville (3)
Ovenbird (10)
Parula (4)
Worm-eating (1)
Yellowthroat (2)
Other Migrants:
Yellow-billed Cuckoo (3)
Black-billed Cuckoo (1, reported by another observer)
Great Crested Flycatcher (3)
Veery (4)
Scarlet tanager (10)
Red-eyed Vireo (~20, singing everywhere, very few seen!)
Blue-headed Vireo (3)
White-eyed Vireo (1)
Yellow-throated Vireo (1)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (1)
Baltimore Oriole (3)
Tree Swallow (4)
Still quite a few White-throated Sparrows about...
