Between 1100 and 1200 today there was an adult COMMON MOORHEN at Southwest
Area Park in Baltimore County. It was in the large pond on the right side of the
road going back to the boat ramp, in close company with an American Coot. The
birds were hugging the reedy edge nearest the road, so they were seldom
visible from the road through the vegetation. They could be better seen from the
foot bridge near the ramp, or from the end of the fisherman's path that goes
right just beyond the bridge.

Also at SWAP was a calling RING-NECKED PHEASANT (heard last 3 visits), 5
SPOTTED SANDPIPERs, many singing YELLOW WARBLERS, several pairs of ORCHARD
ORIOLEs, and 2 SAVANNAH SPARROWS.

Before going to SWAP I spent several hours at Rockburn Branch Park in Howard
County, where things were not especially hoppin'. But I did have 3 BLUE-WINGED
WARBLERS, 1 PARULA, 2 foy MAGNOLIA, 4 BTB, 1 BTG, 5 PRAIRIE, 3 B&W, 1
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, and many YELLOWTHROATs. Also both ORIOLES, and one sleepy
BARRED OWL sunning itself on a limb directly over the trail.
