Greetings,
I have been doing a fair amount of birding (all things considered) lately..
Plenty of migrants around, though I don't feel as though the real mother-
load has arived. By that I mean, that in my opinion, things are kind of
scattered and sort of trickling in. However, on Sunday I did manage to
round up 85 species in 4 hours at the Susquahanna State Park north of Havre
de Grace (15 Warblers including Kentucky, Cerulean, Magnolia, and Protho.)I
also had 5 flycatchers (Eastern Kingbird, Great Crested, Phoebe, Acadian,
and Least).
Yesterday I had A (Solitary) Solitary Sandpiper in a storm water run-off
pond at the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG). Also yesterday, I had
Semipalmated Plover (5), Least Sandpiper (6), and Greater Yellowlegs (1) at
the Swan Harbor Impoundment.
Today I was thrilled at hearing a lone Northern Bobwhite calling from a
woodline down-range at APG. It has been YEARS since I have heard Bobwhite
from anywhere other then the coastal plain -admittingly I have not been
looking for them though.
ATTN: Dave Webb, This may be your atlas area??? Have you had Bobwhites on
post before?
Incidentally, I also had my first of the year Yellow-billed Cuckoo calling
here at APG today!
Good Birding,
Chris Starling
