Hi all --

A really active morning at Rock Creek Park, DC -- for birders who started either at the ridge (picnic areas 17/18) or the Maintenance Yard. I did the latter since it's been so good lately. Species sighted in both areas were about the same -- with the nice exception of a perched COMMON NIGHTHAWK at the ridge! Numbers below for some species are estimates -- Blackpolls and BT Blues, for example, could be heard almost everywhere.

Warblers: Black-and-White (5), Black-throated Blue (~12), Black-throated Green (10), Blackburnian (2, + 1 at ridge), Baybreasted (1, heard only), Blackpoll (~12), Canada (4), Chestnut-sided (5), Magnolia (2), MOURNING (1 male, seen by Clive Harris but not by me, alas!), Myrtle (~30, mostly females), Nashville (3), Ovenbird (8), Parula (4), Prairie (1), Redstart (6), Tennessee (1), Wilson's (1), Worm-eating (2, heard only), Yellow (2), Yellowthroat (~20).

Other migrants: Ruby-throated Hummingbird (2), Yellow-billed Cuckoo (1, HO), Acadian Flycatcher (1, at last!), Eastern Wood-pewee (1), Great Crested FC (2), Rose-breasted Grosbeak (5), Scarlet Tanager (10), Baltimore Oriole (6), Red-eyed Vireo (~10), PHILADELPHIA VIREO (1, seen by me and Tim Boucher, proved elusive -- creamy yellow below, dark eyeline), Swainson's Thrush (2), Veery (8), Lincoln's Sparrow (1), Swamp Sparrow (1). Another birder reported a late Blue-headed Vireo.
