During the evening walk at Fort McHenry last night (5/17) six birders joined leader Jim Peters to tally 42 species between 6 and 8 pm. A Snowy Egret foraged in the wetland for the duration of the walk. The most cooperative species included: a Willow Flycatcher that moved along the main path - staying low in the emerging vegetation; three Cedar Waxwings; a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak feeding in a small Mulberry; and a Woodcock that flushed several times as the group moved along a trail with little leaf-litter.

Warblers: Magnolia - 2, Ovenbird - 2, Common Yellowthroat - 5

Jim saw the Western Kingbird and a Lincoln's Sparrow earlier in the day - we did not attempt to see the kingbird last night and the sparrow was a no-show.
