Hi all --
Still pretty good birding at the Rock Creek Park DC (primarily the Maintenance Yard and Nature Ctr. area) though without the appearance of yesterday's "star" attractions -- the story today was -- Swainson's Thrushes! They were *everywhere* but especially in several fruiting mulberry trees in the park -- in past years I seem to recall the mulberries ripened later but this year they are here for the thrushes (and other birds) to feast!
Warblers: Black-throated Blue (8, all females), Black-throated Green (6), Baybreast (1, male, great views!), Blackburnian (4), Blackpoll (10, males and females), Canada (5), Cape May (1, female), Chestnut-sided (6, mostly female), Magnolia (6), Myrtle (3 females), Northern Waterthrush (1), Ovenbird (4), Parula (4), Redstart (8, many immature males), Yellowthroat (12).
Other migrants: Yellow-billed Cuckoo (1), Great Crested Flycatcher (2), Eastern Kingbir (2, may be nesting), Rose-breasted Grosbeak (3), Scarlet Tanager (10-12, most heard only), Swainson's Thrush (~40!, 25 of them at mulberry trees), Veery (8) Gray-cheeked Thrush (2), Lincoln's Sparrow (1), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (2 males).
